Phylogeny Cytogenetics Services

Cytogenetic methods offer a variety of technologies for characterizing genome alterations associated with cancers and congenital conditions based on changes in karyotype structure. Modern cytogenetic techniques can resolve changes from whole chromosomes to relatively small alterations of sequence or copy number.

Phylogeny offers a comprehensive set of cytogenetics services supported by our tissue preparation, probe amplification and labeling, and consultation resources. All experiments are performed in a CLIA and CAP certified facility. < back to services

Phylogeny Cytogenetics services offer you access to:

  • Standard cytogenetic karyotyping by G-banding of human and mouse tissues, including cell lines and tumor samples
  • Additional chemical banding procedures (NOR, QFQ, DAPI)
  • Fluorescence in situ hybridization analysis for
    • mapping genes,
    • analysis of chromosome breakpoints,
    • identification of gene amplification,
    • identification of marker chromosomes and of structural abnormalities, and interphase FISH for examining molecular karyotypes of nondividing cells,
    • including archived (frozen, paraffin-embedded) specimens.
  • Spectral Karyotyping (SKY) to identify karyotypic rearrangements in dividing cells by simultaneous painting of all chromosomes using a single multicolor hybridization procedure. Since publication of this method, many important insights into the role of choromosomal translocations have been obtained by applying this technique (see original paper)

Our Cytogenetic services are fully supported by all necessary preparatory and expert analytical services allowing you to focus on your scientific research. These include:

  • Microscopic analysis and digital imaging to document results of these studies
  • Tissue culture and slide making as required for analysis listed above
  • Consultation, analysis and training
